Best Newcomer Award
This week we are looking at the winner of our 2011 Best Newcomer Award, recognising a volunteer who has joined Cycling Projects in the last year and has made outstanding progress within the organisation.
The winner of this award was Fred Pate, who supports Ridgewood School (the home of Burnley Wheels for All). From the outset Fred had great enthusiasm to introduce cycling to the school, he often transported many students to Hyndburn WFA sessions and was eager to have a centre at the school.
Since supporting with the set up and running of the WFA centre, Fred has hasset up a bike workshop at the school and has supported many of the students by teaching them basic maintenance skills. This summer Fred and his family successfully completed a charity ride from Lands End to John O'Groats raising money for the school mini bus.
Fred has been described asa fantastic asset to the school and the Wheels for All centre.
