Cycle for Life

A well received planned programme for people who need to improve their health. This initiative can take many forms, but primarily it is package of cycle activities aimed to encourage and embrace people who are considering the strengths that cycling can offer as a credible form of physical activity.
Participants may, for example, be undertaking a cardiac rehabilitation programme, be recovering from depression, be overweight, have diabetes or have a range of conditions that benefit from healthy exercise and the positive ‘feel good factor’ that cycling brings. ‘Graduates’ of the programme can go on to join the “Second Chance Cycling Club” together with friends and family to help them keep up their cycling and continue on their journey to improved health and fitness.
Since 2002 we have enjoyed successful partnerships with over 21 PCT’s in the North West, including Stockport, South Sefton, and Bolton PCTs. and are currently running programmes across Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire, plus formulating development plans with several others.
We have also developed a distance-learning package for those wanting to deliver Cycling for Health initiatives in other regions of the country. This initiative has been instrumental in writing and publishing Health on Wheels - the recent guidance to cycle referral programs. This guidance has been funded by Government Office North West and Cycling England, and has been circulated to PCT’s and Local Authorities across the country, with an intention to act as a lever and develop such schemes nationwide.
