Tom's Story

Tom, who is 9 years old, suffers from Noonan Syndrome meaning he has hyper flexible joints. Having also poor co-ordination he found it difficult to cycle any bike.

As his friends took part in a new cycling course in school, Tom was not able to get involved as he could not cycle. This got his mum keen to find a way to enable her son to cycle. This was when she came across Cycling Projects, where she attended the Wheels for All session in Warrington to see what was on offer. By the end of this first session not only was Tom riding confidently on a Trike, but the whole family enjoyed the day.

Linda, Toms mum said: “I am so grateful to all at Cycling Projects, I’m confident Tom will go from strength to strength! The staff and volunteers worked tirelessly and patiently to make sure everyone has a wonderful and productive time at these sessions. They have also given me the confidence I needed to get back on a bike after 15 years and the freedom is wonderful. I hope very soon we will be able to have family bike rides!!

Tom has now progressed from using a fix to free wheeled trike. He now attends several of our sessions a month in Warrington and in Marbury Park, along with friends and family. Working with our staff Tom’s next aim is to try cycling his own two wheeled bike!

We would like to say a big well done to our Warrington Wheels for All team and we will keep you updated on Tom’s progression, watch this space . . .
